Anindilyakwa Art & Culture Centre
Anindilyakwa Art is owned by the Anindilyakwa
people and is located in the community of
Angurugu on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of
Carpentaria. It was established to help local
artists promote and sell their work.
The Art centre operates as an artists workshop/
gallery and sells traditionally made spears, woomeras,
carvings, bark paintings, didgeridoos, dilly bags,
necklaces, pandanus mats and baskets. Workshops
teaching traditional crafts to the young people are held
regularly and taught by the elders.
Open Monday – Friday 8.00am – 4.00pm. Weekends by
appointment. A permit is needed to enter Groote Eylandt,
available from Anindilyakwa Land Council +61 8 8987 4000.
